More than 50 percent of the cotton acres in Arkansas are now being hand-weeded due to problems with glyphosate-resistant Palmer amaranth or pigweed. That’s at an average cost of $30 per acre or a total of an estimated $30 million in 2011. The University of Arkansas’ Jason Norsworthy discussed the problem in a presentation at the Beltwide Cotton Conferences and in an interview following his speech.
