Topcon introduces CropSpec plant nutrition sensor

Topcon Precision Agriculture (TPA) announces the development of CropSpec, a real-time integrated plant nutrient monitoring and application system for agricultural equipment.

CropSpec is currently available for delivery to the global agriculture market in limited numbers with mass market introduction in early 2010. TPA is a business unit of Topcon Positioning Systems (TPS).

Working with Topcon’s core competency in optics and in cooperation with Yara International (the world leading manufacturer of nitrogen-based fertilizers), Topcon engineers designed CropSpec as a powerful crop canopy sensor. The Topcon system utilizes a two-sensor system (left and right side of the cabin) that allows a farm operator to monitor plant conditions and apply fertilizer and other inputs only as needed.

“This system will help revolutionize and simplify variable rate applications,” said Michael Gomes, director of agriculture business development. CropSpec sensors measure spectral reflectance using light from pulsing laser diodes focused on the plants. The reading more

New Holland’s Workmaster tractors are back

New Holland’s new Workmaster tractors bear a trusted name, and the same important qualities that made the original Workmaster tractors so popular in the 1960s.

True to the original models, New Holland’s new Workmaster tractors are dependable, basic workhorses that are simple to operate and easy on the wallet.

The 45-hp Workmaster 45 and 55-hp Workmaster 55, which replace New Holland’s popular TT45A and TT50A tractors, are powered by proven, fuel-efficient, four-cylinder New Holland engines. The engines are Tier III emissions compliant and can be operated with diesel or B5 biodiesel fuel. They deliver quiet start-ups and smooth, quiet operation.

Just like the originals, the new Workmaster tractors are built to work hard and last long. Their strong, cast iron axles effortlessly handle the stress and strain of heavy loader work. Big three-point hitch lift capacity (more than 2,500 pounds on the Workmaster 55) means the tractor can manage more

AGCO to show biomass harvesting equipment

AGCO Corporation, a leading manufacturer and distributor of agricultural equipment, is applying its experience and innovation in harvesting and haying equipment to the development of efficient and affordable means for harvesting and transporting crop residue for cellulosic feedstock.

After several years of research and development, AGCO’s first prototype biomass harvesting system will be demonstrated Nov. 3 at the POET Project LIBERTY Field Day near Emmetsburg, Iowa. Project LIBERTY will produce 25 million gallons of cellulosic ethanol per year from corn cobs. POET is currently working with 14 farmers in the Emmetsburg area on a pre-commercial harvest, and biomass is a major area of interest.

“Across the country the cellulosic biofuels industry is providing our customers with a new revenue opportunity. New Holland hay bales go high-tech

New Holland Agriculture has reaffirmed its leadership in hay and forage technology with the launch of CropID, an individual bale identification system for large square balers.

Using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, the CropID system gathers detailed information about each separate bale and stores it in a microchip that attaches to the twine.

This innovation enables commercial growers to uniquely tag and sort bales based on a wide range of criteria, so that shipments or storage can be arranged according to the hay types that best meet the clients’ needs. Identifying quality, moisture content, or other characteristics of specific bales is now a simple process, allowing growers to easily decide which bales are the best match for specific customers, or need to be set aside for further curing.

“The wealth of data provided by the CropID system offers a vast array of benefits that have a great value more
